I'm looking to get some insight or advice about a 4x4 truck.

There's a 1978 Dodge W-150 Power Wagon for sale. It's has the 440 big block, automatic, and it's the 4x4 model. One problem is when he tried to start it, it wouldn't turn over. He tried putting gas in the carb and it would barely turn but no dice(sounds like he don't have enough gas). He mentioned the carb is kinda funky and should get some attention. It doesn't have the key so he had to hot wire it and there's no pad for the gas pedal.

The good is that the body is in very good shape along with the bed(it's coated with herculiner). The chassis isn't rusted through and the drivetrain looks intact. No leaks from what I saw. The cab has no rust and the interior is in pretty good shape for it's age. He's asking for $1000.

What you guys think of this truck? Think it'll be hard to come across parts? Hard to work on? Think it's a money pit? I'd like to use it as a DD. I really love the way it looks.

If it dont run and he can't diagnose it, its worth no more than $500. Point blank. That's a $1000 truck in running condition. If it were a Ford or GM, it would bring that kinda money not running but being a Dodge kills it.

There's a little trick I use when looking for vehicles. I look around at all the cars on the road. When I figured out that I wanted a truck, I started paying attention to what brands of old clunkers and beat ass looking trucks I saw on the road. I narrowed it down to GM and Ford. Just about every smoking, creaking, knocking pile o' junk on the road was one of the two from the late 70's early 80's era. Hardly ever do you ever see a Dodge pickup older than mid-90's when they changed to the "pig nosed" front end. There must be a reason.

Well he claims it does run and it doesn't smoke. I feel that you're right about it not running. The truck has been for sale for about 6 months and not one person looked at it.

Well I'll be back in a month for it when Im in the clear from bills. He said he's gonna try to get it running.

I still have Pan and Im not moving till the end of June. My landlord didn't get my 30 day notice so I'm giving myself one more month here. During that time Im thinking about getting a second job to bust my chops or do some side work as a back yard mechanic to save up extra cash.
