so i went looking at trucks yesterday and saw this one i liked. my dad knew the sales man and he said he would give me a good deal on it. the truck is a 2009 dodge 2500 w/ 6.7L cummins turbo truck has 12k miles on it and has a 6" lift. this truck sits taller than my current red one. he said he would give me a good trade in value for my truck since i will be trading it in.
any of you guys know any pros and cons of this 6.7L? any opinions would be great. he let me drive the truck home and i have until monday to come up with a decision!

I don't know much about trucks, but I like Ford you already have much better. But not sure what the power difference is between the two.
Dude... do you NEED a deisel? Can you justify the extra $$ for maintenance? Go price a standard oil change. You might be surprised.
Dont get me wrong, I don't mind the look and the engine, but a Dodge truck is nothing more than a shitty carrying case for a great engine. If its an automatic, dont expect to be able to get 100k outta one. 75k could even be a stretch. Chrysler is notorious for transmission problems. On a smaller note, the dash and door panels are made of hard cheap plastic.
IDK, I think your current truck is MILES ahead of the Dodge. Engine aside, of course.

your right i guess i dont really need a diesel cuz i dont ever tow or haul anything heavy, unless its when were trying to pull jordan out lol. as for the maintenance i can afford that, and the oil change yes are pretty pricey, but ill be available to have oil and filters from my work since we have dodge diesels in our fleet.
as for the looks, yes the inside is crap compared to my ford. it does have power everythign and leather seats but the dash doors speakers are crap!! my truck is more luxurious than the dodge in everyway. but the dodge has hella of alot more power than my ford!

do it....i worked on a ton of those trucks when i worked at best buy, yes the inside is crap... but the motor is worth it. if u can afford it, u will love the power and tq

I've always wondered why Chrysler insists on using Fisher Price plastic on even their top of the line vehicles. They can texturize it to death and cover it in polished wood laminate but it's still the same crap they make legos out of... only it's in a vehicle and it fades in the sun much faster.
Aside from the motor, Dodge does still at least throw in a solid axle front suspension, which Ford also does on the F250/350... leaving Chevy as the only ones still using the crappy IFS setup on their HD rigs.

yea only reason im leaning towards this is cuz of the cummins turbo! ive owned a dodge before. my truck before my red one was an 05 dodge hemi 4x4, loved the power in that also. i just wished the 5.4 had more power and didnt seem so sluggish with my truck being lifted! other than that i love my truck!
on the other hand i have read some bad things about the 6.7L cummins being crap with all their emmision junk on them. ive read that they are no where near the old 5.9cummins. anyone know any info on this?
i would get it. my whole family has only owned dodge trucks and they never treat us bad. my uncle had one that we gave hell on the deer lease and it lasted 341k miles before the tranny went out. if you get it be prepared for high maintinence though like lenn said its pretty expensive other then that i say its the best, and im sure that the deisel will getter mileage then the truck you have now.

as for the transmission not lasting comment earlyer the tranny is tough in the newer dodge diesels. they put the aisen(spelling) 6 speed in it and my friend has one identical to this truck but black and an 08 with a power programmer, filter back exhaust, and an intake. he runs the dog piss out of it and has 80k miles on it with the 37s and it still runs like a beast. i was very impressed. only downfall is the 6.7 has all of the particulate filters and crap in the exhaust and gets shitty mileage. id take a 5.9 over a 6.7 any day. only problems ive heard of so far is the turbo is weak but ive only seen that on a cpl ppl that pull heavy trailers all the time

I'd say keep your current car, if it's more luxury then the dodge, I'd rather be more comfortable then fast for a daily. and if anything I'd just mod your current car.

I really like the new dodge diesels. Like someone said above the new trannys are a lot stronger than previous models as well as the front end parts. If you are worried about the DPF you can always get a delete kit and also an EGR delete kit. Plus as usual a programmer will let you unleash the beast under your hood or let you get superior mileage to that of a gas motor, possibly both. I would say if you can afford it, go for it.

i hate 6.7s there bastard cummins they should have stuck with the 5.9 and if u like beer then u will love the dodge because its made out of beer cans lol and u can never get a 6.7 to sound good the the 6.7 is low on power compared to the new ford and chevy

and anyway diesels r not the best thing to go mudding in there very heavy and when u get stuck u really get stuck as you've seen with my truck i wouldnt buy a diesel for off road use your truck is better suited for that than any diesel but if u just want a diesel just to have one then i would get the duramax

with a duramax plus decent horsepower programmer (anything over 120 hp) ull be frying that allison tranny and shortly around the same time looking for new injectors. they make stupid power easily but dont hold up. also with the independent front suspension ull be breaking tierods and other things with big tires and power. to the v8/straight 6 comment go look at some cummins builds and see how much power they can make out of the older 12 valve and 24 valve engines with simple boltons(injectors and turbos). and they are bulletproof. the 6.7 makes really great power especially with a dpf delete kit and programmer. plus the turbo can spool around 40 to 50 psi of boost so adding bigger injectors isnt really much of a problem with trying to keep ur egts down. ill never own another gas powered truck. when my 7.3 was built i was around 500 hp. 750 lb feet of torque and got 23 mpg on the highway on the economy program using a light foot. thats hard to beat
