No HTML code in sigs??

I noticed that this forum allows .gif files, images, and links in sigs but you can not so much as change the color or bold any text you have. Is this something that was instituted for a reason or is it something that nobody has even mentioned yet?

The only way that I can think of is to type it out in some thread and then copy and paste it. I have no options for text above the box that you type your sig into.
