View Full Version : Turning
This is gonna sound retarded, but I finally figured out how to turn proper on my new bike. My old ninja was so nimble, all I had to do was lean without shifting my body weight and it tracked whatever direction I leaned. Unless of course I was going really fast, then I shifted my weight in the direction of the turn and it helped take the corner with speed. I've been so stupid, trying the same thing on the new bike, and obviously it hasn't been working well for me at all. Tnite, I went to an empty parking lot and while practicing my cornering, I stuck out me knee in the direction I wanted to turn, and simultaneously shifted myself off the bike leaning in the same direction. Like an arrow, the bike cornered true as shit. Duh!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!! :banghead:
Finally got the damn system to accept my file. Anyways, here's my new bike at the dealer right before I got to leave with it. The other one was my ninja 250r Se.
i like the new pick up man, looks good. but hahaha good to see you learned that man..thats gonna be really helpful. i didnt have that same trouble cause i did that on my 250 also so i just carried it over to the 636. its more fun that way i think to lean your whole body into a turn like that, makes me feel like a track racer :b ive leaned in so much once riding, i ended up almost dragging knee with the turn haha..thatd be ok for the track but on the street without any gear to protect my knees..bad idea lol
Went in too hot on a left hand uturn underpass and almost ate shit. I relaized I was going in too hot right before entering the corner and straightened up, downshifted and locked up the rear by accident. The rear started swaying and I was lucky I kept it upright. lol. Went right back around and did it the right way before I got scared thinking what MIGHT of happened.

Do you have sliders? I'd hate to see you botch a turn and lay down such a nice bike.
damn glad you didnt lay it over man, a low side crash wouldve sucked. but its good to learn from mistakes

in all honesty, even though i tend to take back road corners pretty tight from time to time when im bored. playing on the street isn't the smartest way to do things, they have classes for them. I really want to give it a try, and it seems like you do as well.
just saying, better to be safe then sorry.. especially when learning still. I think it'd be the best way to keep yourself and your bike out of trouble.
Yeah, I agree completely but enjoy practicing. I have some areas I practice that hardly ever see traffic, but next spring I definitely want to pay for some instruction on the track. I'm more into the handling of the bike then outright speed. Anyone can twist a throttle, but not everyone can ride smoothly through a turn and that is where I want to grow stronger. Being smoother.
