Lol, personally I think they are UUUUGGGGGLLLLYYYY!!!!! They might have SOME performance aspects to them, but I can't get over the silly wing and the fact that it looks like its 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide. It doesn't look aggressive at all...
just my 2 cents...

The huge wing is an "upgrade" option.
"some" performance? You really haven't read up on them, have you?
For how much of a car you get at $23k before any kind of deals from a dealer, it hink it's much better than a 15second car that costs only 2k less from msrp.
6 inches longerin length, but 1 inch shorter on the width. 100lbs more than a new model civic si, and will slap it's ass all the way around a track, and down a 1/4 mile.
Add all that up, with gas mleage about the same. . . . i dunno, hard to pick at that point. :)
Well, not really hard at all.
But, if looks is all you're basing it off of, can't change that opinon.

i personally dont like the looks, spoiler or not. but i wouldnt flame a guy for driving one. good performance for its price, and much better than its supercharged predecessor.

This argument kind of sounds like the whole SRT4 argument. And we have yet to see many fast SRT4's at all. Heck there was one at Texas Tuner Showdown in Dallas, fully built for drag racing with aftermarket auto transmission....etc...., and it got spanked badly.
I NEVER see Cobalts in drag racing doing anything even remotely impressive, well except for the GM cars that have multimillion dollar budgets which are supported just to try to trump up sales for the poor cars. Hopefully this turbo Cobalt will be a better attempt than the SRT4 and other simlilar cars.

I thought that srt4 had one of the fastest times of the day.
I personally think GM is trying hard to build a car to "fit in" with the sport compact market. I think they are headed in the right direction.
As far as comparing it to a Honda, I highly doubt its built with the quality of a Honda. Sometimes a car may look better or perform much better but, thats not what matters all the time.

it run a few 10 sec passes, but was not consistent at all. being fast once or twice doesn't win races. It's the guys who are consistently fast who win.
for now we know the truth, CRX>redSRT4

I'm pretty sure that car has ran 9's. An off day maybe? Not like ILR hasn't had them. . . Regardless, its competing head to head with the cars in its class.

I guess the way i'm thinking of it is a little bit different'.
I'm not looking to make a 10 second car out of it. I've got a better platform now to do that with.
I'm looking for a decent priced car that is still somewhere quick (13.9 1/4 and fwd nurburgring record), and gets near 30mpg. . . .and well, it's hitting those spots, and still maintains on having two doors, with 18 wheels from factory.
I see the new model civic si about once or twice a day, and i can't remember the last time i saw a cobalt ss, not to mention a turbo model.
Plus, one more reason i'd really love to have it. . . i've got a ton of friends i 99-04 gt's, and 05+ gt's spinning heavy ass 20inch wheels that i'd love to rape.

not a bad car...but not one of my favorites. i see a couple of SS cobalts that i wouldn't mind racin' against in the bmt area just to see what my car has against it!

Chances are you'd be racing the sc models, and not the tc models.
SC models were really worthless. The suspension was still nice, but the sc had a limit on the power it could make.

the new motors have been pushed to 500whp on stock bottem end and hold up well... they are very underated

Just to give an idea of the quality suspension/drivetrain/computer work put into this car, here's a decent comparison:
nurburgring time comparison:
C6 Corvette with Z51 suspension: 7:59
2008 Cobalt SS: 8:22

And that was a 100% stock cobalt?
I hope those aren't like Nissan's #s regarding the new GTR HAHAHAHA.
I guess time will tell.

lol pretty good considering 260lb tq at 2000rpm =P compared to 131lb tq at 6000rpm xD
No one has mentioned the no lift shift feature yet. I don't really get this right now. The idea is to keep your foot on the gas and use the clutch to shift, or not use the clutch to shift?
One review I read said this system was tested by a gm engineer 1000 times in a row and never once had a problem.
The whole nurburgring hoopla with this car is great marketing to build street credibility before the car is released. I don't doubt the numbers, but I don't think those numbers are super hard with a good driver at the wheel who knows the track. Same driver, same brand tire and compare a few cars on a clear day same outside temp. Then I'll buy the hype.
The engine is the same from the redline and gxp "skystice" and is supposed to be very strong. Can't wait to see a comparo between this and the ms3 by the major auto rags.
I love my Si, but I don't kid myself on it's power. This new cobalt and the ms3 are in leagues of their own, at least untill the new ralliart lancer comes out.

Ryan, the no lift shift is exactly that, full throttle shifting. You still use the clutch you just leave your foot down while shifting. I have the same option in kpro LOL I can set where I want the rpms at between shifts.
Based on the info posted,
I like that Chevy implemented variable valve timing. The 86x86 aka a square motor is bad ass. At least they didn't use some funky bore and stroke combo.
What I don't like, is the electronic throttle. After driving several cars with them, I prefer the feeling of a cable.
Question for you 4valve :rotfl: what type of T is on the car (what size compressor)?

^^^^that is the truth too much lag time with electronic throttle.

I blame that on having to see a fucking 2003 z06 every single day when i go to grab a drink from the fridge.

Having already owned a drive by wire car, i can tell you a tune can take every bit of the sloppiness out of it, making it a night and day comparisson.
Don't know the exact model, but i know it's a twin scroll Borg-Warner K04, it's small, but can reach 23psi. . . it's just a matter of it being tuned for it. Same one on some Audi and VW cars. I've been trying to find out what size for awhile, but just can't. :(
I guess i've gotta change the name to 4valveSS now. . . .

I've been full-throttle shifting hondas for many years now. The honda transmissions aren't POS like almost everyone else's

GMPD created a "No-Lift Shift" software algorithm that kicks in when you're at full throttle and press in the clutch. It manipulates the engine's variable cam phasing and retards the ignition timing so the cylinder contents burn later in the cycle than they usually would, creating more energy to help the turbocharger maintain boost.
You have 3/10ths of a second to complete your shift while maintaining 95-100 percent throttle; otherwise, you experience a normal upshift with an interruption in boost. Our hottest shoes can execute a gearchange in half this time, so it's not hard to meet the time limit.
