View Full Version : Bike oil
I'm going to change my own oil this weekend. The dealer wanted to tell me that I had to bring it in at 800 miles for the 1st change, they'd re-torque all the bolts, and then charge me $300. I'll have at least 200-250 miles on it by Saturday. Since I've been riding it harder than recommended, I figured I'd change it out early on my own and save some $$. What do you guys think about having to get it re-torqued? Dealer bullshit?

Shit, for $300 I imagine you could get 2 nice torque wrenches. Then you can do it yourself and make sure it was done right.

I'm gonna do it this weekend. Any advice? Is it even remotely difficut if I have a rear stand already. Oh, and there's no removing of any fairings to get to oil plug and filter! :beavisbutthead:

Just leave the oil in there for the first 800 miles in case it is a non-detergent oil that will help the rings seat. In the dozens of bikes I have owned, they have all seen the rev limiter in the first few miles but I have always left the factory oil in them for that first 800-1000 miles.

werd, I never took any of my bikes in for the re-torque crap and never had a problem. Change the oil yourself and look over everything it you'll be fine.

Thanks. I hear so many different opinions, but with all your experience I'll definitely take the advice. I haven't hit rev limiter yet, but I'm only about 1.5k revs away from bangin off it!
