2009 Special Edition Ninja 250r

Its small, but exactly what I wanted. I live in a very large neighborhood with miles & miles of side streets and smooth 45mph concrete roads. I just wanted a bike to enjoy riding around locally and to see if its something I'd like to move up eventually in engine size with.

Great starter bike. I got my first bike--1989 VTR 250 interceptor. Certainly not fast but light, very maneuverable and got 65 mpg. I put 20k miles on it the first year that I had it :D I then moved up to a VFR 750 but probably would't be here if that had been my first bike.

Congrats

Ben

Thanks guys. I'm really excited about learning the bike and the power wasn't an issue with me, but I'm sure after some time I'll be ready to bump up. :D

I have no choice but to store the bike outside at my apartment. I bought a cover and talked with the guys at the shop. They told me how I have to wipe it after a rain, even with a cover, and to make sure I let it air dry on nice days, like I won't be riding it on nice days. Anyways, I was thinking about getting a rear stand for it to stabilize the bike. In case some kids come by and knock it over, or it's really windy in Pearland too. Maybe a strong wind might knock it down because the cover caught the wind blast? Idk, but where is the best website to find good parts/accessories at fair prices for a bike? Also, any tips you guys want to give would be much appreciated. Maintenance, riding, whatever. Thanks!

Nice bike, they are pretty fun to ride but slow as bawls. I ride Tony's sometimes around the block n what not. Should have went with a used one IMO, in a few months your prolly going to want a bit of a bigger bike. Anyways, grats on the purchase, enjoy the bike and ride safe!

me and you are gonna go up to houston for what we talked about still right? soo..i can do it then :b hahah

but yeah these 250s are really good starter bikes, but im sure you knew that already. i was ready to upgrade to a bigger cc bike 2 months after i got mine, only because i had ridden mine so much in that amount of time. maybe its not the best idea to upgrade after 2 months but thats what im going to do and ill just have to start the process all over again and baby the new bike and not get throttle happy with it. you wont regret starting with the 250 first though. you'll feel more confident hopping onto a bigger bike after you've ridden this one for awhile.

just please gear up every time you ride, i see a lot of people without gear doing stupid shit everyday.. be safe

Thanks Tony. I appreciate the words of advice. I have ALL the gear and have been walking around the house with my helmet on to get used to it..lol. It was really claustrophobic at 1st. I even panicked when I couldn't get my strap undone once I was ready to take it off the 1st time I wore it around. :rotfl: I don't pick the bike up till next Saturday because I wanted the stand and frame sliders 1st before I brought it home. As far as upgrading goes, here's my plan. 1st off, I got the bike walk out for $4400. Tt&l. Great price, I haggled..,lol. I put $2440 cash into the bike and also paid cash for all my gear and add ons. I ended up only financing 2k total, which I'll have paid off by end of next month. I'm going to ride the bike till 800 miles, then I'm gonna jet it and put the full yoshi on. I'm hoping that by the end of December I'll be as experienced as I want to be, then I'm gonna work a deal on a new 09 Zx6r before the 2010 one comes out. My 250r should still be worth at least 3k and I'm sure it'll have less than 5k on the odo. I take really good care of my toys, so it'll be in tip top shape when I'm ready to dump it. Anyways, you guys are awesome and if any of you come near Pearland. Hit me up and we can get together and ride.

nice thats not bad for the new 09 models. but yeah i was pretty claustrophobic with my helmet at first too but i got used to it. i just freak out when i cant unstrap it when its hot out haha. idc if its hot as hell outside..i got all my gear on. i even have two jackets. one for summer and one for the cold season if i decide to ride then . but you should get a good amount for your 250 when it comes down ot that time. i bought mine for only 2500 with 3100 miles on it and im trading it in for my new bike and im getting 2500 for it still but now it has 4700 miles on it so thats not a bad deal at all and owe 3500 on the new one which ill have paid off quick. i didnt pick up a stand for my 250 simply because i know i wont have it for long and i wanted to wait til i get my bigger bike til i got it. my bikes garage kept everyday. and can't wait til you get the zx6r. im getting something along those lines. but me and andrew will be up in houston one day...when he's got his car ready to play around with some htown cars and we can ride then..idk how long that'll be though lol

edit: i forgot to add this so ill add it now. i really took it slow with my 250 when i got it because i had never ridden a bike before. i was afraid to go onto the highway for the longest time and always took the long way everywhere i went lmao. even till now i hate going on the highway because of the drivers on there.. but other than that its fine. just always be alert of other drivers because you may be a good rider but its them you wanna worry about. i almost ate shit about three weeks ago when some dumb bitch on the phone pulled out in front of me right before i crossed her and i had to react fast before i ended up t-boning her.. just be careful. i havent been riding long enough or had enough experience to give you uber leet advice but i can give you basic advice like what i've already said.

I don't care if I've been riding forever, good advice is always appreciated. I've never owned a street bike, but have ridden at least 3 different friends bikes. I used to have a buddy with an 01 gsxr750 that would let me ride around his neighborhood...lol. I never got it out of 2cd, but I would cruise all over by his house. A guy I used to work with at discount tire co had an 04 CBR600rr. I'd loan him my rsxs and he'd loan me his bike during lunch sometime. I'd ride his bike all over and skip eating, haha. Its been at least three years since I've ridden anything though, so that's why I got the baby ninja. I considered the 500r, but the 250r just looked SO much better! I got on a 03 R1 once and it was intimidating to me. I rode it down Fairmont in Pasadena, and at 1 time got it to 75 while in 2cd. I felt very uneasy on that bike and never got back on it again. One thing I am not is afraid to admit when I'm not ready for something. I believe a motorcycle is something you HAVE to respect everytime you get on. As far as traffic, I'm riding in my neighborhood area untill I feel comfortable enough to start cruising 288 s. I also have three friends with bigger bikes who've been riding longer, so they are excited to ride with me and give me pointers. My buddy just bought an 09 R6 ( its his 2cd r6 ), and my girlfriends cousin has a sic Triumph Daytona 675 3 cylinder. He had a zx6r before that but got t-boned 1 day and was out of commission for 3 months!!! He got BANK from that bitch and as soon as he was rehibilitated he bought a house, a lexus, and the Daytona. Now he even tracks that bike. I'm rambling now, so thanks again for the support and PM me or call if anyone ever wants to meet up.

says the guy that left Kohl's friday using his helmet as a frame slider :D

just fucking with you, but ask Angela or BigLux. I always rode with a helmet and very rarely without a jacket, but never in shorts. I know too many people that have been hit to ride without gear.

Tony, have you done anything to your 250? I've read it's a night and day difference just by jetting it. The article I read said Kawasaki leaned it out too much for emissions compliance and mpg. After a jet kit install, it made 2 more whp and was claimed to pull much harder all the way from 3k to 12k. After I break it in and while it goes for its 1st service at 800 miles, that and a full stainless yoshi are going on.

nah my 250 is bone stock haha except for a chain and sprocket change that the previous owner already did when i got it. but nope i didnt know all that about the 250. i didnt do too much research on them because i knew i wasnt going to keep it long so i didnt bother to look to into depth about it. but man a little more pull to these 250s would be BA haha.

I'm gonna drive hard to break it in. The tech is supposed to put 10 miles on the bike to make sure it's set up right. Once I get it warmed up and on the way home ( about 20 miles ), I'm gonna run it back and forth between 5k and 10k letting it engine brake in 2cd, 3rd and 4th gears. Have any of you checked this guy out before? http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
I'm gonna follow his system. There are alot of chat rooms discussions from people with mechancial expertise backing him up.

I put 100 miles on it Saturday, and there would have been ZERO way I could have kept it below 6k rpm's. On the way home doing 60, 6th gear is at 8k rpms, and after it was ridden a good ten minutes I took it up to 10k a few times. I spent Saturday learning the bike, practicing hard braking, cornering, and rev matching the downshifts. I was very impressed and honestly surprised by the power the little 250 has. I got up Sunday morning, and went out for an early morning ride. It seemed that after it warmed up Sunday, it was even more responsive than Saturday. Half throttle inputs made it seem like it reacted quicker, and the engine really seemed to pull harder from 7k+. I haven't taken it above 10k yet or given it full throttle, but I prolly will this week for sure. I love it and so far it has exceeded what I originally thought it would be. I'm 6ft and 215lbs and it has no problem getting me up and running quick. The only negative I have to say is the wind above 50 mph. I've taken it to 80 a few times and anything above 60 the bike is fighting wind hard. I didn't buy it as a hiway bike, so I'm not that worried about that right now, but I can see where I'll want a bigger one sooner than later. Btw, when I went to pick the bike up. The dealership had traded a ZX6r for an 08 ZZr-600 STILL IN PLASTIC. I looked everywhere for a leftover ZZr before getting the 250r, and if that dealer still has the ZZr end of summer, I might trade up.
