http://i44.tinypic.com/34eauc5.jpg This is the one on my car right now. Sorry its a pics from my phone... took the diff apart cleaned the whole thing. put it back together welded 360* around gears to gears...then gears to body. The on front and back 1/4 steel plate droped in and welded all the way around. So far ran it mine daily about 2weeks 25 miles one way and and drifted 3 days on it....feels good.

Hey im going to go weld up a rear end i have laying around the house tonight...call if you want...

mikesrex
03-10-2009, 11:30 AM
here are the prices
75 bux you bring just me just the diff w/o rear end
100 bux you bring me the rear end and i have to tear it down and put it together. And all i will do is use rtv to install the pumpkin cover, unless you provide the gasket.
150 bux sandblast and paint rear end housing.
Call me 409-454-6900

75 seems like a lot of money for welds that look like that.

post pics of your mad welding skills mike. this is simply a case of if you want a diff welded, here is someone that will do it. if you don't like the price for the quality, don't get it done.

this isn't a forum for people to advertise businesses Jeremy. If this guy wants to charge 75 bucks to weld like that, he is not trying to help out a homeboy. He is just trying to line his pocket. It's my understanding that this kind of advertising is frowned upon unless the dude wants to be a sponsor.

When I get off of my new laptop and on my other computer, i will be sure to post a pic of my welded diff that I paid 50 bucks to have welded up. I'm sure some of you have seen the pic and could possibly find it on the internet somewhere. I tried and failed at searching for it, though, so I will simply find it on my harddrive and upload it again.

i get your point. i think he was just trying to help local people that didn't know where to go to get this done. he is not trying to make serious money off of it, so i think being a sponsor is kinda overboard. also, he isn't the one promoting this. someone asked if they knew someone who could do it, he simply said he could and named a price.

Sorry i didnt read that when some one ask for a price and you post a price, that it would be viewed as advertising a buisness? :mynameisben:

In all honesty the welds are not done well at all seeing as how thick of metal you are working with....not saying it wont hold just if i was doing it even for free i would make sure it was good welds.

Bones
03-10-2009, 08:57 PM
Well thanks for the honesty...but what you cant tell from that pic is that before 1/4 inch plate is welded in, the spiders gears are completly welded together. then the spider gears are welded to the body of the diff. any where that could lay a bead down it has a bead. Then the quarter inch plate is laid in. the 1/4 inch plate has the 1/16ish gap all the way around so that its not a surface weld but fully penatrated. I will weld another one up and make a step by step build thread for you haters. Then we can go from there!

+1 on the advertising not being seen but really, it was a typical response. Something you could expect to read from Mike, IMO.

And Chase I honestly dont think you know a dam thing about welding, not that I do.. I just think you dont.

Bj you know my dad, and you know he's a welder. A dam good welder at that, and has welding for over 10 years. If you need it done, swing by the house and ask my dad. I'm sure he would be willing to do it for you. Black Brad has even come to my dad to ask to have a diff or two welded (which hasn't happened yet.) He used to weld his own diff back in his racing days so I'm sure he knows how to do it.

yes, it is typical for me to call someone out on trying to charge 75 bucks for welding that looks like that.

http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uploaded11/difff50.jpg
here is my diff. While it may not be the absolute best-looking welds you have ever seen, for 50 bucks it blows away those crappy welds on the diff this guy welded that wants to charge 75.

to Bones:

nothing personal man. I just don't think it's worth 75 bucks to get welding done like that. If someone wants to pay, fine. Just as you can post your opinion on here, I can do the same.

Time is money. If I spend money, I can always make more by working, flippin' stuff, etc. But I will never get back time spent doing ____. When I used to port throttle bodies I did dozens for free just for practice, but these days I'd at least get back material costs and a free dinner for my time. That may not be what it's worth to you, but that's what it's worth to me.

Whoa....it pretty!:mynameisben: So what are you advertising? Like i said if i dont work this weekend ill work on a build thread...doing it from inside out...then you can see how in depth and how much prep is put into these diffs...its just not running a bead on the out side of a gear....if you want to bash some ones welds bring more to the table than that....it still aint like a stack of dimes!

a weld isnt about how pretty it looks its about how strong it is and how solid it is any one can make a pretty weld a strong weld is harder to make and bones has a lot of metal in his welds along with 1/4" steel plates I'd take the stronger one over a crappy honda diff with some crackerjack box welds from a wirefeed

Sure, you weld may be functional, but it does look like total shit. You have to be fucking kidding trying to bash someone else's welding skills when you would even consider posting up a pic of shoddy work like that. It is worth about $20 in my opinion. If you disagree, well that is fine. But I won't let you come on the tech sections trying to charge someone $75 for that shit. You can take that shit elsewhere.
