That's a nice bike! I do not currently ride, but am looking forward to making my 1st purchase soon. I've never owned a streetbike, but have been on friends bikes a FEW times before. I've ridden an R1, gixxer 750, cbrr 600, and a Harley once. I think for my 1st bike I will buy an 09 ninja 500r. I'm 6ft and 195 lbs. I want to ease into the whole bike ownership experience for my own comfort level. The R1 scared me, the cbrr600 was not comfortable after 30 minutes, and the gixxer 750 had too much power for a novice rider. I think the 500r will alow me to grow at a nice pace.

started off riding my brothers 98vfr 750, rode it for about 6 months straight. then a while back i bought my brothernlaws 01R1 from him. the day after i bought it from him i pulled the motor out and took down the tranny and ordered all new gears and shafts for it, had the plastics painted to match my truck, ordered a puig db, undertail. just having a hell finding time to put it all back together. work on it for a little while and find another bolt, seal i need to order. took my and my brother about 2 nights to pull it completely down, god knows how long putting it all back together. im just ready to ride! i bought it with a jetkit,k&n, exhaust, and gears(not sure what it was geard to) i added repaint, puig db, under tail, $1k worth of tranny parts and oils... thats it so far

I started off on a 03 Yamaha R6. I rode it for 3 years and then sold it to pay for the wedding. I went for like 2 months before I couldn't stand it anymore and got the 1K. Whenever you get the R1 put back together pm me and we can do some riding.

What's the main difference between the busa's? Different turbos?

We had some chassis problems that we couldn't sort out until late on Sunday. We really are shooting for a 252 run, but looks like we will have to wait until next time :(

you should! they're a hundred times more fun compared to cars. they're not as deadly as people make them seem, just be aware of your surroundings and always assume drivers will drive stupid and/or can't see you and you'll be a-okay

just take the MSF class if you haven't already to see how well you do and then get your license and take it from there.

i was actually going to take the MSF class a few months ago but then i backed out of buying a bike but now im reconsidering it again. after i get that out of the way, the problem ill have is choosing a bike..haha. i would really like to get my hands on the newer model ninjas but last time i asked, they're really hard to get a hold of one

wrd! not a bad idea. i say take the msf class and then just pick up an older ninja 250 or a ninja 500. my personal choice was a ninja 500 because it had a little bit more 'oomf' to it. i put around 4k miles on it before upgrading to a 600cc which was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than i would have imagined, but felt so much more planted at high speed turns compared to the ninja 500. the only downside to the older generation ninja's is that.. well.. they're friggin ugly lol. as soon as you get on the bike though and start riding, you completely forget about how the bike looks and just enjoy the experience you get instead.

yeahh i know what you mean but man..right now im looking at the pictures of the older ninjas and i cant get over how ugly they are to me! that was the only reason why i didn't want an older model first because i couldn't stand the looks but i know that i wouldn't be keeping it for that long anyways so it probably really wouldn't matter too much. but a 500 does sound better than a 250 because it has a little more go to it but then again i dont think i'd be keeping the 250 long enough to wanna use that little bit of go either. about how much did all of your gear cost you?

yeah i'd definitely recommend a 500 instead of a 250. a 250 just feels way too slow imo and you'll get tired of it quick, where as a 500 you can keep for a while. it's nice having the bit of extra power to get out of tight spots at times. i bought my '05 ninja 500 used with 3k miles i think for 3500, and then i sold it with 7k miles for 3580. the good thing about beginner bikes is that they're always a breeze to sell since everyone is looking to learn.

as for my gear, i bought my helmet on ebay bnib for 180 shipped (shoei rf1000) which is actually a kickass deal. the alpinestars tz1 leather jacket i got off of h-i for 180, my teknik gauntlet style gloves i got online on denniskirk.com for around 50, my joe rocket racing boots off of newenough.com for around 80, and my teknik leather track pants off of a random site for $110. i saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars because i was lucky to find all of them as close out deals. my friend paid 500 for the same track pants 2 months before i got mine lol, and my boots used to go for around 250 or so.

yeah completely true! you dont want to pay for gear that is barely going to protect you. but that's not as bad as i thought it would be for gear. i know its going to be a pretty penny but not as much as i expected.

but im reconsidering a bike now..haha. and what about MSF. what do they do there? is it pretty much like drivers ed but with a bike? do they provide you with one to learn on?

Hey Costas, how much is a bike track day?

Do you think riding on the track has help you out on the street? I know the obvious answer but, I'm just curious what your take is on this.

Hey Costas, how much is a bike track day?

Do you think riding on the track has help you out on the street? I know the obvious answer but, I'm just curious what your take is on this.

it fluctuates depending on who's putting together the track day. the most popular organizations down here are RideSmart (www.ridesmart.info) and Texas Track Days (www.texastrackdays.com). RS events usually go for around 120 or so, but with cheaper prices, it also results in more guys out on the track so you're constantly fighting to pass each other. Last time I went though I had an instructor follow me, and he was like wtf are you doing riding in intermediate, go to advance right now kthx, so I did, and holy sieeet the guys in advanced are fast as hayl, but it was nice not coming up on a group of slow people on every corner and having to jam on the brakes do that you don't run into them lol. That's one downside in intermediate, there's a huuuuuuuge range in skill level. Some guys in there need to be in advanced, while others need to be in beginner.

ANYWAYSSS, back on subject, Ridesmart events are usually around 120, texas track day events are usually 180.

As far as helping you out on the street, that's kind of iffy. It helps you be less scared of your bike, but honestly, after doing several trackdays and then riding on the street again afterwards, I ended up riding like a huge pussy in comparison to how I rode before lol. Before I'd take an exit on 610 or whatever going like 110 or 120, then I see all the people wrecking at the track and I'm like hmmmmmmm.... if I were to go down right now I'd go straight into the wall right there and die, lemme go on ahead and slow down.

Regardless, in the long run, it's definitely good to have some experience because then you really know what the bike is capable of. You learn to not get scared of going real low which at times is needed in emergency situations, and also you improve your braking and what not, but IMO, on the track, all you worry about is you and your bike. You don't have to worry about obstacles and dips/bumps in the road or gravel and other cars like you do on the street, so I think it's fair to say it's good to have a little of both.
