This is to keep a journal of a long build process.

I will try and snap a few more pictures of the random things I have/ have done. Feel free to ask questions or make comments.

There are still a ton of things left to do. I just don't know how deep my hands are going to go in my pockets.

SPONSORS ARE WELCOME :)

Besides engine, what other build ups do you have to perform to get this car ready to run? What kind of tranny mods (or even tranny will you use), axles, and basically everthing that has to do with getting the power down? It blows my mind to think how much planning goes into a build like this.

I am currently planning to stay with a type s (02-04 stock gear set and final drive). If money is ever dumped in my lap I would much rather use dog teeth gears made out of a much stronger material than the stock gear sets. Not to mention the ability to run a 4.0 final drive and retain a STRONG 6-speed tranny. The axles are going to stay stock until I have enough money to pick up an axle-on-hub set-up, 26" slicks wont be kind to stock axles.

Lets put it this way, my gear set has been apart at least 3 times. New bearings were installed the 2nd time, 3rd gear synchro hub was flipped around (thanx to Mike for seeing that) at which time we both felt it better to run another 1st and 2nd gear set I had. Brand new 2nd gear and synchro's were installed the 3rd time.

The OBX diff. was pulled apart at least 5 times. I de-burd the inside of the diff., replaced the casing bolts (I actually had some made LOL), and put new McMaster washers in THE CORRECT WAY. I also replaced the bearings on both side of the diff.

The clutch was an ACT 4 puck unsprung with a "race" pressure plate. I dropped it off at Triangle Clutch in Beaumont. They built a custom sprung disk with a stronger compound. They gave the pressure plate an acid bath and may have repronged it. And of course, they also the resurfaced the flywheel. I plan to go with a twin disk eventually. Hopefully the clutch I have will be okay for another step in power from 339tq to whatever 500whp brings me LOL.

I have 1" drop springs all the way around (for now), along with sway bars underneath. Again, this is on the list of things to do but, 3g's in tranny left, 2g's in axles, 1200 for a clutch and prolly 1500 in coilovers, the list just keeps going. I will deal with what I have for now. Although some people may view this as "dumb", not all of us can spend 10g's on "supporting" mods to put the power down. The car is going to be tuned somewhere between 400 and 500whp ON PUMP regardless of the drivetrain and suspension I have on it.

The fuel system is next on the list for upgrades. I already have some 950cc injectors as well as a walbro intank fuel pump, BDL fuel rail and Aeromotive FPR. I need to get an inline fuel pump either an Aeromotive A1000 or a Bosche 044. I will be using bulkhead fitting for the tank and running hardline to the firewall, then stainless lines will go from the hardline to the rail and regulator. I will do a full write up on this once I get close to putting the motor together.

I wish I were this mechanically inclined. I think I could do it, I just need to one day buy something I can take apart and start getting my hands DIRTY! Thanks for all the detail Matt, I still can't believe it when you say stock gears will handle all that power. I know auto makers "over engineer" vehicles for the unexpected, but geez! Thats some serious unexpected you're throwing down.

Sometimes gears break with stock power and sometimes gears last their whole life with 700whp. Guess it gets down to NIKE, JUST DO IT!!!!! If its gonna break, let it, I will fix it and go on. I used to be scared of changing spark plugs LOL

Although I sold this kit, there is a much better kit in the works.

I am moving from the 4082 to a bg of some sort (366,368,372 . . . we shall see). Moving from a standard T4 flange to a divided T4. Looking to make under 700whp . . . sleeves just don't fit into the equation yet.

Thank God I didn't sell any of my fuel stuff. :)
