so I want to get a bike really soon but every one is saying I will kill myself on a crotch rocket, so I am thinking about a cruiser. I am 5'10 , about 160 I don't want anything to big. suggestions?
yeah I have kept myself from getting a bike for the longest time so I can stick around for a little while. hehe. Im sure eventually I will get one... A cruiser would probably be a good start. I dont know enough about them to give you any good suggestions though.

gsxr750.... Great starter bike IMO..... No matter what you get, its got 2 wheels and is a lot smller than the average vechicle. So how is a cruiser safer than a crotch rocket? Just because it isn't as fast doesn't mean anything. I drive the slowest thing on this board, but if I get hit by an 18 wheeler I've got just as much chance of surviving as anyone else...
Just suck it up nancy, buy a crotch rocket while you can. You'll eventually get married, and you can just as much kiss it goodbye then....

this is the WORST advice i have ever heard.... Do not start with 750 unless it is a 1990s model... get a newer 600

what's wrong with a 750. Same size, more power. Not too big to start off with not too small that youll grow out of it in a few months.

I don't suggest you start out with even a new 600 LOL If you want a 600, get a used early 2000 model or something. IONO I think a gsxr 750 is a bit much for someone who has never riden a bike. LOL

Ninja 650r. Light, vtwin, reliable, inexpensive, good style, and a bike that from what I've read will alow you to grow.

See, Ryan has the right idea... a bike that will allow you to grow. My cousin's first bike was a 600. He had it for 3 months then wanted something bigger because he was ready for it.
I'm not saying that I'm right or anything, just putting in my 2 cents.

From an old guy who probably has 200k miles of riding bikes, get something small, an EX500 or SV650 or if you want a cruiser something in the 750-800 cc range. In a year, if you decide you like riding and you have proven yourself, step up to a bigger bike. Also, the first bike--buy one used--maybe one with some scratches/cracked panels, etc. You are most likely going to drop it or have a low speed slide anyway. No reason to get a new bike and tear it up. I traded a guy out of a Kawasaki 800 the other day that would be a pretty good bike for a beginner. Hit me if you want to take a look.
Good luck,
Ben
The sv650 and ninja 650r are in the same category, except the ninja has a fairing for the same price as a base sv w/out a fairing. I came so close to buying one last month, but then I remembered how broke I am......haha

First time i hit 150mph on a bike was when i decided to sell it.
No fucking way in hell i'm going to let a rock the size of a golf ball, or a wild animal end my life.
Made a few trips between beaumont and groves, and just decided i didn't want other drivers having that MUCH control of my life.

Never had a bike have you? I started on a 2003 Yamaha R6 and in 2006 moved up to a Suzuki GSX-R1000. I was scared to death the first time I took the R6 out, but if you take in easy a 600 will be fine. All my friends started on 600's. People say you will outgrow a 600 but thats not true. Most people can't ride a supersport 600 to 75% of it potential. I got my 1000 beacause it was a bigger bike and I feel more comfortable on it or else I would still have my R6. Just buy your gear (and wear it) and have fun. Hit me up when you get it and we'll ride.
