View Full Version : K24A2 and K24Z6
Its been a while. I've been more into my bike and local Houston motorcycle forums since I got rid of my Si but this hit me the other day and I am now researching to figure if it can be done as simply as I hope it can. Read on:
My engine is a K24Z6 ( new in the 2010 CR-V's )
I am thinking that I can transplant a TSX intake manifold and throttle body, plus add an SRI designed for the TSX ( automatic ) and then reflash my computer with the HONDATA program for the auto TSX.
I know nothing of the technical inner workings of these 2 engines ( I've looked for details online ), but some of the base similarities between them lead me to believe this would be possible.
My main concerns are valve angles, timing, cam profiles, etc, and other aspects of the engine differences that would not work with the reflash between the two. I'm thinking though that there isn't that much of a difference between my k24 and the TSX's besides a superior EMS ( wiring harness an issue? ) and air intake system.
Can anyone here can tell me EXACTLY why this won't work or what I am not thinking of? I appreciate any insight and if you can guide me on how to make it work or another idea of what to do then I am happy too.
Just in case you need to see this

PS : I am sure I would have to figure out how to make my CR-V accept both an ECU and the wiring harness from a TSX. Where's Matticus on this one, I know he's done this before.

you dont need to use the TSX ECU. Just get a K-Pro ECU and run dual ECU's
hmm wait....Hondata may even have a kit for it now, not totally sure. Heck Hondata may have a flashpro or kpro for your application, I am not aware of all of their offerings anymore.
^ Thanks for getting back to me. Believe it or not, I've posted this exact same questions on at least ( 4 ) other forums with zero response, and Hondata replied back to my email I sent them with the " We do not make anything for your application " response. Well, with as much cross product as Honda / Acura has between engines and configurations, I know there has to be a way for me to do this w/out going internal into my engine. What do think of my plan? I must keep reliability as this is my work vehicle that I put close to 4k miles a month on, but I want to increase the performance that I know is hiding just beneath the surface of my K24. Plus, how cool would it be if I were the 1st CR-V owner to do this particular set of of mods to my engine / ecu and actually achieve sustained , reliable gains. Any contribution to this as I do my own research is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Ryan
PS: Any MOD on this site with the ability to do so, please change my screen name from Mydixiewrecked to just Ryan. I did that as a joke a long time ago with Mark and I don't find it funny anymore. Thanks
Concerning the Thread Topic - I checked Hondata's website and saw something I missed before. They do not make any type of ECU mod for the TSX for 2007 and above, and they do not have KPRO listed as available it is only listed as unavailable. Maybe they had issues with the program on the k24's? They still have the 06 reflash available, but again, wouldn't I have to have an 06 TSX ECU in order for them to reflash it? And if I had to do that, would I have to also switch out wiring harnesses between my car and a 2006 TSX's?

can you get an AEM box or even just the AEM FIC for your car? I remember Huy tuning one of those cars, can't remember if it was a CRV or an Element. Seems like it made like 300ish WHP on turbo through the auto transmission hehe Pretty badass lil ride.

I've heard you talk about this guy Huy before on here. I want this shit done right and wouldn't mind paying a pro at all to do a nice NA job. If you talk with him anytime soon, would you ask him for me what his thoughts are on doing this. Does he have a shop that I could go and visit him at?

He has a shop in NW Houston area, near the intersection of beltway 8 and 290.
check out http://www.inline-racing.com/ for address and contact info
^ Good deal. I'll visit with him soon.

Might you be thinking of the Acura RDX that's running around here? Dark Grey with black wheels and sounding nasty? It has an ILR sticker on it last time I saw it.

I think he did one of those too. Huy pretty much tunes anything and everything that he can put some sort of EMS or tuning solution on. He is the best in this area in terms of building/fabricating/tuning. The closest place you can get similar work done is at T1 in Dallas.
I would like to see what he could do with a stock Mazda6.

Is yours the turbo one?
One of my buddies there has a 400+ WHP MS3 with a built motor. It's pretty quick, but unfortunately all he does is gay roll racing lol.
Nope... I got the N/A 2.3L, its no speed demon but its ALOT of fun to toss around.

It needs some bolt-ons.
Agreed. The wife does not want a loud car though. :(

the CRV forum is most likely not going to have someone that can solve your fuel management situation. Before doing anything else, I would make 100% sure you have a way to control your fuel and timing if you go turbo. I'm almost positive you can use a piggyback like an AEM FIC, but it would be better if you could run an AEM box or perhaps Hondata. I seem to remember a way that you could get your stock ECU to control all the drive by wire stuff and then get a 2nd hondata ECU to control the fuel and timing. I've never done this, so it's just an idea that you would have to do more research into. Honestly, it would probably cost so much money to turbocharge your CRV that you could buy and build another car that would be faster, while leaving the CRV stock. Just make sure it is something that you want to do, then the cost isn't a factor. Then you would just figure out the smartest way to turbocharge your car. Plumbing the turbo kit or making the turbo manifold is ridiculously easy and not an issue. Your main focus should be to find out how to tune the car. Once you have a definitive way to tune, the rest is a walk in the park.
just stick a lsx or 5.0 in it.. and use dual exhaust and lift it and put a rebel flag on the back glass.

^ Yeah! Dukes of Hazard, ya'll.
Mike, I'm not going turbo. I have nothing against turbo but on this application I want NA all the way. I emailed HUY using his website detailing what I wanted and asking for his input. Cost wise, I figured all the parts plus labor and tuning might run me $2500? If I net an extra 15-20 whp and 10-12 wtrq with steady progressive power delivery and more eager throttle response, then I will be happy! Sounds silly I know, but keep in mind I only bought this for work. I drive 4k miles a month, every month, and plan on keeping this thing well over 200k miles with it running in top working order the entire time. If anything, I feel adding these parts and opening up the engines true abilities will actually be doing my engine a service and adding to its longevity. This is not a race application, just me looking to open up the potential of what I knows lies just beneath the surface.
